Spaceward Bound Expedition

Spaceward Bound - Namib
Spaceward Bound - Namib

The Spaceward Bound expedition to the Namib Desert was conducted from 18 April to 25 April. The science focus of the expedition was the study of hypolithic cyanobacteria. While the latitude and coastal orientation are similar to the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Namib Desert is unique among deserts in the thick uniform fog conditions. One of the key goals of Spaceward Bound is the involvement of K-12 teachers in the research expeditions. Teachers from the US, South Africa, Australia, and Namibia were involved in this expedition.
