New, State-of-the-art laboratory astrophysics facility

Claire Ricketts (NPP), Cesar Contreras (NPP), Robert Walker (SSA) and Farid Salama (SSA) have reported the successful completion of a new, state-of-the-art laboratory astrophysics facility at NASA Ames. This unique facility is located in in the Space Science Astrophysics Branch where it is used to produce, monitor and analyze astrophysical species under a controlled environment to support NASA missions (SOFIA, HST, JWST, Herschel). The article, entitled “The coupling of a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer with a cosmic simulation chamber: A powerful new tool for laboratory astrophysics” appeared in the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry.
