MOST

A NASA Ames team led by Mark Marley has been awarded 23 days of MOST (Microvariability and Oscillations of STars) Guest Observer time to search for “earthquakes” on Jupiter. The MOST satellite will stare at Jupiter in an attempt to detect, for the first time, the oscillation modes of the planet. Similar seismological observations of the sun and distant stars have served as extraordinarily successful probes on the interior structure of these objects. If MOST is successful in finding similar modes on Jupiter it would open an entirely new window into the interior structure of the planet.
