LCROSS talks for San Mateo and Peninsula Astronomical Societies

Jennifer Heldmann recently gave talks about NASA’s LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) mission to several local astronomy clubs in the Bay Area. On December 3 she spoke to the San Mateo County Astronomical Society and on December 10 she spoke to the Peninsula Astronomical Society at Foothill College. Each evening lecture consisted of an overview of the motivation for the LCROSS mission, a mission overview, and a discussion of the scientific data and most recent science results. Many of the astronomers in attendance were observing the Moon on the night of the LCROSS impacts and thus were keenly interested in hearing about the wealth of scientific data being returned from this mission.
