Six papers describing observations of LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) are being published in the 22 October 2010 issue of the journal Science. These papers describe the observations of the lunar impact event from instruments onboard both the LCROSS spacecraft and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). LCROSS and LRO data indicate the presence of water and other volatiles trapped in the permanently shadowed region of Cabeus Crater near the lunar south pole. The LCROSS PI, Dr. Tony Colaprete, participated in a press conference on 21 October 2010 to describe these exciting science results.
