I use remote sensing data (primarily the HiRISE instrument’s high-resolution imagery and terrain modeling) to identify the past and present role of water in shaping the surface of Mars and to target features of astrobiological interest. I use techniques like terrain reconstruction, geomorphologic mapping, water phase modeling, and the identification of Earth analogs, to study my favorite surface features: the ancient oceans, valleys, and lakes; gullies and recurring slope lineae; hydrothermal sites, water-ice deposits, and permafrost freeze-thaw indicators.
