BASALT Research Objectives

With BASALT Sandmeyer works in the field and in mission control. When in mission control she aims to provide helpful geologic feedback to the EV teams. In the field she makes sure the proper sterilization techniques are used and that the spectrometers are ready for data collection.

Sandmeyer is an undergraduate researcher working under the direction of Dr. Shannon Kobs Nawotniak. She is currently working with the BASALT and FINESSE projects to better understand the rheology and morphology of lava flows, especially concerning frothy lava textures.

Even when she is not studying volcanoes, she prefers to spend her time outside; rock climbing and mountain biking in the summer and skiing in the winter.
